Thursday November 29 - “Roosistence – Keep North South” - a night of rock'n'roll in celebration of the North Melbourne Football Club.
As the dark, corporate forces of Australian Rules football plot to relocate this proud club from its rightful home at Arden Street to a new home in Queensland, there was a chance for the loyal Roo faithfuls, and lovers of great music, to band together to demonstrate their passion and support for the mighty Shinboners.
Featuring a sensational line-up including The Wrights, You Am I, Something For Kate, Tex Perkins, The Rockmount Five, Mick Thomas & Squeezebox Wally, Bouncer, Rob Clarkson, comics, guest speakers and DJ’s, this was a special event not to be missed.
Here was a night that left you in no doubt that the spirit and the passion of the Shinboners runs deep. That we are not ready to call it a day, that backed into a corner, we are going to fight. In the words of Trevor Marmalade "We do not lie down. We do not roll over. If the AFL thinks they can raliroad us up to the Gold Coast, they have picked a fight with the wrong club".
A big thankyou goes out to all involved in getting the gig off the ground. It has raised about $40,000 for the North Melbourne Football Club community which is an absolutely stellar effort.
Join in the Chorus!
Glenn Archer and Trevor Marmalade lead the crowd in a roof lifting rendition of "Join in the Chorus". Check out the passion in Trev's eyes, he spoke brilliantly, articulating perfectly what it means to barrack for North Melbourne and what the club means to all of us. This was definitely a high point in a night that was full of highlights.
We Can't be Beaten!
Glenn Archer joins Grinspoon frontman Phil Jamieson in singing a smashing version of the Rose Tattoo classic.
Arch and Tim
Glenn joins Tim on stage. He earlier stated that he wished he could sing and play guitar with the bands but was lacking the talent. Well Glenn, I am sure all the musicians wish they could smash into a pack with a ferocious attack on the ball, or dive across the boot for a magnificent smother. To each their own talents.
